Offshore Contract Review
At Expat Money®, we work with expats in a space where contracts often cross borders, legal systems, and languages. When you’re buying property abroad, entering a partnership, or signing an agreement tied to your offshore plan, a contract is rarely “standard”—even when it looks like it is.
Our offshore contract review service connects you with our in-house legal professional to help you understand what you’re signing, what your real obligations are, and where hidden risks may exist before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What types of contracts can you review?
We review offshore and cross-border contracts related to real estate purchases, investment agreements, service contracts, partnerships, shareholder agreements, and other international commercial arrangements. Our focus is on contracts connected to offshore structures, foreign jurisdictions, or cross-border risk exposure.
-
What does the contract review include, and what is excluded?
The review includes a legal risk assessment, identification of red flags, clarity issues, unfavourable clauses, jurisdictional concerns, and practical guidance on what the contract means for you.
-
Is this a legal opinion or just a general review?
This is a professional legal review performed by a licensed attorney in Panama, focused on explaining risks, obligations, and enforceability concerns in plain language. It is not a litigation opinion, court filing, or representation in a legal dispute.
-
How long does a contract review take once I submit my documents?
Standard turnaround times are provided at intake and begin once all documents are received in complete form. Timing can vary based on contract length, complexity, jurisdiction, and language. Delays may occur if documents are incomplete or require clarification.
-
Can you negotiate or modify the contract on my behalf after the review?
No. We do not negotiate with counterparties or draft revised agreements as part of this service. However, we will clearly explain which clauses may require attention and what issues you should raise with the other party or your local counsel.
-
When does a standard contract review become a complicated contract review?
Our standard contract review pricing applies to agreements of up to 10 pages that fall within the typical scope of offshore, cross-border, real estate, investment, or commercial service agreements.
A contract may be classified as a complicated contract if:
- The document exceeds 10 pages
- The structure is unusually complex
- It involves highly technical, regulated, or specialized subject matter
- It falls outside the normal scope of expertise of our in-house attorney
- It requires substantial additional legal research or jurisdiction-specific analysis
If, upon initial review, the attorney determines that the contract qualifies as complicated, you will be informed before work proceeds beyond the standard scope.
Complicated contract reviews are billed at $200 USD per hour, and you will receive an estimate of the additional time required before any further work is completed.
This ensures transparency, protects scope clarity, and allows you to decide how you would like to proceed.
