5 Key Conversations From The Expat Money Online Summit 2026

Written by Mikkel Thorup | October 03 2026

The Expat Money Online Summit 2026 may be over, but the conversations we had during those two days are just as relevant now. Thousands of freedom-minded investors, expats, and families joined us to hear from people working directly in international relocation, wealth protection, longevity, geopolitics, real estate, and freedom-oriented communities.

For me, that is what the Summit has always been about: giving you information you can actually use. You do not need to know exactly what the world will look like five, ten, or 100 years from now, but you do need to understand the forces shaping it, know what options are available to you, and start putting those options in place before you need them.

We had dozens of presentations this year, and every one approached the future from a different angle. But there are five conversations in particular that I want to highlight because they deal with family, health, community, geopolitics, and residency, and all of them come back to the same question: how do you build a better life, protect the people you care about, and preserve your freedom in a world that is constantly changing?

If you are building significant family wealth and want what you create to survive long after you are gone, this is a conversation I think you need to hear

1. THE 1,000-YEAR FAMILY: PROTECT, GOVERN, ENDURE

Most people think about protecting their wealth for themselves. They might think about their children, and some may even think about their grandchildren, but very few people stop to ask what happens after that.

What would it actually take to build a family that does not simply inherit wealth, but knows how to preserve it, govern it, and continue building on it for generations?

That is the question I explored in my presentation on the 1,000-year family. And it requires looking far beyond traditional estate planning.

Because the biggest threat to a family legacy may not be taxes, markets, or changing laws. It may be what happens inside the family itself as one generation gives way to the next.

If you are building significant family wealth and want what you create to survive long after you are gone, this is a conversation I think you need to hear.

2. LONGEVITY IS INTENTIONAL: BETTER CELLS AND THE PROMISE OF GROWING YOUNGER

There is not much point in building more freedom into your life if you do not have the health and energy to enjoy it.

Edgar Gassan, Director at Xtend Optimal Health Center, approaches longevity from a perspective that goes well beyond simply living longer.

What if the real goal is not adding more years to your life, but changing how you experience those years?

His presentation explored cellular health, human performance, physical independence, and some of the emerging ideas around what may be possible as we get older.

We spend a lot of time talking about financial freedom, international diversification, and creating options. But all of those plans depend on one thing we sometimes take for granted: being physically capable of enjoying the life we worked so hard to build.

This presentation may change the way you think about preparing for your own future.

3. VERITAS VILLAGE: FREEDOM HAS AN ADDRESS

We talk a lot at Expat Money about choosing the right jurisdiction. But choosing a country is only part of the equation.

What happens after you arrive?

Who are your neighbours? What kind of infrastructure surrounds you? How dependent is your daily life on systems you may have been trying to get away from in the first place?

Patrick Hiebert, my very good friend and CEO of Autris, tackled those questions through the idea behind Veritas Village.

His presentation looked at what happens when the principles of independence, resilience, and personal freedom are applied not just to where you establish residency, but to the actual community you choose to call home.

For anyone who has ever thought, “I know I want to leave, but where would I actually want to live?” this presentation takes the conversation one step further.

4. THE INTERESTS DRIVING GLOBAL CHAOS

When you follow geopolitics through the daily headlines, events can look chaotic, contradictory, and sometimes completely irrational.

But what if you are looking at the wrong incentives?

In his presentation, Dave DeCamp, News Editor at Antiwar.com, asked viewers to look beyond the official explanations surrounding major foreign-policy decisions and examine who benefits when conflicts continue, strategies fail, or policies remain in place long after their stated objectives appear to have fallen apart.

It is a framework that raises some uncomfortable questions.

And whether or not you agree with every conclusion, it gives you another way to examine the geopolitical forces that can ultimately affect where you live, where you invest, where you bank, and how much freedom you have to move.

If geopolitics forms any part of your Plan-B thinking, this is one presentation you will want to watch carefully.

5. TOP 3 RESIDENCIES TO GET IN 2027

A Plan-B sounds great in theory. But when you actually decide to get one, the obvious question is: where?

There are dozens of residency programs around the world, and they are not interchangeable. Some are inexpensive. Some are straightforward. Some are better suited to people who genuinely want to relocate. Others may make more sense as a backup option.

In this presentation, I narrowed the conversation down to three Latin American countries I believe are particularly worth understanding as we move into 2027: Paraguay, Costa Rica, and Panama.

But this is not simply a comparison of three residency programs.

The more important question is what you are trying to accomplish in the first place.

Are you looking for somewhere you could leave for tomorrow? A second home? A business base? Permanent residency? A country your family could genuinely build a life in?

Those answers can lead you in very different directions, and in this presentation, I broke down what you need to understand before deciding which path makes sense for you.
