Described as one of the leading schools in the UAE, the Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai is located adjacent to Dubai Creek. The curriculum it follows is the International Baccalaureate Continuum PYP, with classes starting from pre-kindergarten.
This multilingual conducts its classes primarily in English, with French and German being mixed into the lesson plan too. Arabic is also taught, to abide by basic KHDA requirements. This school’s main objective is not to produce students who get an A+ on every test, but to spark an interest in lifelong learning. The student body is diverse, exposing students to a vast spectrum of different backgrounds. The campus has been optimized to be modern in design and eco-friendly.
What I like about the Swiss International Scientific School Dubai (SISD) is its commitment to crafting future citizens of the world. With a focus on English, French and German – SISD admits students who don’t speak a word of any of these languages up until the first grade. The student body is like a world map, with kids hailing from almost every corner of the world. The teaching faculty, just like the students, are multilingual and multinational. You can’t help but be exposed to a variety of different cultures in the melting pot that is Dubai – and SISD is a good place to start.
Rates and Prices
Prices range from 55,000 to 60,ooo dirhams per year. While this isn’t the cheapest tuition around, it might just be worth it. Additional facilities that are included for this fee are childcare, after-school buses for extra curricular activities, meals and after-school snacks. A non-refundable administration fee of 500 dirhams is also charged, which isn’t really fair, in my opinion.
SISD’s awkward location doesn’t get brownie points in my books. Juggling getting the kids ready for school, not spilling your morning coffee on your new suit and dodging the overexcited dog is hectic enough. Combine that with frozen traffic, and you’ve got a morning from hell. The school is located in a quiet part of Al Jaddaf, close to the Business Bay bridge, adjacent to Dubai Creek.
The campus has been designed with eco-friendliness and sustainability in mind. SISD recently received the Happy Healthy School award from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). This was in honor of the school’s initiatives to promote healthy eating, active living and generally creating or contributing to a positive environment.
Each classroom is equipped with a teacher, teaching assistant and classroom assistant. A typical class is a modest size of 20 students, ensuring each individual gets the attention they need. Fitness is clearly a priority at SISD as it offers an Olympic sized swimming pool, 2 basketball courts, 3 tennis courts, a football pitch, 2 running tracks, a gymnasium and dance studios. In addition to this, SISD also features a 550 seat auditorium, IT room, library, indoor and outdoor play areas.
SISD is a candidate school for the DP, MYP and PYP programs. It’s currently pursuing authorization as an IB world school. Kids from all over the world will feel at home here, as the student body is a cocktail of 57 nationalities. The school strives to be inclusive of all cultures, encouraging cultural curiosity. It also offers boarding school facilities and IB full continuum.
